General Information
This application has been developed by
Baseline Business Geographics of Canada . It uses MapInfo MapXtreme,
the world's leading Internet Mapping software.
The system is optimized for Internet Explorer 5 or later,
FireFox and Netscape 7 or later. It may work in earlier browsers but
the performance will be poor. We recommend that you download
Internet Explorer, FireFox or
Netscape.
The application conveys information in the form of maps. You can
search a comprehensive database of information and display the results on the
map. You can move around the maps using the pan and zoom tools, measure
distances and areas, query the underlying data and print the resulting map.
Quick Start
To locate a civic address, type the address in the field and click the
button next to the field. You can enter a partial address, e.g. 209
Queen.
To locate a land parcel, type in the parcel number and click the button
next to the field.
Look at the buttons at the top of the map. They allow you to manipulate, measure
and print the map. Click here for an explanation of
these buttons.
You can change which layers are visible by using the Layer Control. If it is not
visible, simple click on the arrow next
to the caption Show or Hide Layers. For more information on
the Layer control go to Changing which features are shown on
the map.
You can control which menus are visible by clicking on the arrows beside them.
Problems
If a little toolbar appears when you hover over the map, change your browser
settings as follows:
In the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
Under the Advanced tab, in the Multimedia section,
uncheck Enable Image Toolbar.
If the text is overly large and spilling off the bottom of the screen, from the
View menu select the Text Size option to reduce
the size of the text. Alternatively you may want to ensure that you are using
Small Fonts as follows:
Right click the desktop and select Properties. On the Settings
tab, click the Advanced button. Choose Small Fonts.

tool. The chosen tool remains current until you select another one. To
zoom in to a specific area, click and drag the mouse to create a rectangle,
making sure that you drag the mouse down and to the right.
As you zoom in and out, various levels of map detail will appear and disappear.

Searching for a Civic Address
Choose the Civic Address search by entering information in the field
and clicking the button next to
the field. Enter all or part of the address. For example, entering '209 Queen'

If there are multiple matches, for example if you enter just '209', you will
have to select one from the list that will appear under the search.
Searching for a Land Parcel
In the same manner as searching for a civic address, you can search for a land
parcel by entering information in the field and clicking the
button. You must enter the entire parcel number or the result will not be
returned.
Changing which features are shown on the map
Most of what you want to see should already be on the map. To show other
features, click the arrow
next to Show or Hide Layers in order to display the
layer control menu. The layer control menu has a colour key to the layers on
the map. Using the check-boxes, select the features that you wish to show on
the map. Features can also have their labels switched on and off here.
To re-display the map when you have made your selection, press 'Apply Changes'.
Changing the colour of features on the map
If you wish to change the colour of one of the layers on the map, look on
the layer control menu for a box headed 'Alter Colours'.
Select the layer which you wish to re-colour, and choose a colour from the
selection available. When you press the 'Apply Changes' button, the layer will
change to your selected colour.
To restore the default colour for a single layer, select the layer that you wish
to change and press the 'Apply Changes' button without selecting a colour.
To restore all layers to their default colours, select 'Restore Defaults' and
press 'Apply Changes'.
Displaying Legend(s)
If a layer has a Legend associated with it will be displayed by

pressing the apply changes button. The Legend will appear
below the Layer control. You can hide the legend by pressing the hyperlink
number under it. You can make the legend re-appear by pressing the same number.

tool, which is on the toolbar, then click on the feature that you are
interested in. All of that feature's data will be displayed in the Detailed

three addresses all at the same point). The information can remain visible or

or building permit, you can use the 'Notification' feature.
First you have to search for the parcel on which to centre the
search. Next, click the arrow
next to Notification in order to show the notification
tool. Enter a distance in metres or feet, this will depend upon which
unit of measure you have selected using the button.
Press the Search button. All parcels that are entirely
or partially within this distance of the original parcel will be
selected. Use the Export Data button
to save this data to your local hard drive and then use it as a
data source for a mail-merge in order to send out notification letters to these
individuals.
Note - in order to notify parcel owners that are adjacent to
the selected parcel, use a search distance of 1.
Note - the search distance is measured from the edges of the
selected parcel. To search out from a point, do a Civic Address search
rather than a Parcel search before using the Notification tool.

re-display the map in a format suitable for printing. Adjust the title or scale

the Layer Control menu, selecting 'Using High Speed' from
the pick-list at the bottom and pressing 'Apply Changes'. You might have to
scroll down to find this pick-list.
